Ssshh! Don't tell Mrs Chahal.

As Mr Murphy was locking the school up this evening, he found Wisey having fun in Mrs Chahal's office! I wonder where will Mr Murphy will find him next?

Mr Wisey

The Big Hoot Club

The Big Hoot pupils have been very busy this evening. All pupils helped to create a Big Hoot display which will be kept in the main entrance of the school. Please remember to visit the display on your way to the dinner hall.

Kechia and Helena helped Miss Allen to pin the huge owlet poster to the display.

Amelie and Lucy solving the owlet puzzle.

Karys and Isabel helped to create a title for the display.

Megan, Noorulhuda and Uzayr also helped to create the title page.

Lights, camera, action!

Wisey got a starring role in 4.2's trailer this week, helping out in the town cafe along with Bruno the bear. They were filming their trailer, based on The Dancing Bear by Michael Morpurgo, and Wisey just had to get himself on the big screen!

Shadow searching

Year 3 have been learning about light and shadows in Science.
Today we were drawing around our shadows at different times of the day and recording their length and how they move.
Wisey was able to help us with our investigation and Sophie and Latifullah drew about his owl shaped shadow and recorded the length of it.

Year 3 working in pairs and observing the changes in their shadows at three different times of day.
We had lots of fun working with Wisey and maybe he will work with us again!

Film rolling! Action!

Wisely had great fun with 4.1 today. The pupils were filming their trailer of Billy the Kid which was written by Micheal Morpurgo. Wisey helped out with directing and recording the trailer. Watch out, he may create his own blockbuster very soon.

Wisey spotted around The Oval

Wisey has been a very busy owlet this week. On Friday, he took part in Mr Sullivan's German lesson where he was given the new nickname of Otis by the pupils.

Wisey also had a little fun on the back grass this weekend. Mr Murphy woke up to find him playing on the space net.

Remember to regularly check the blog to keep up to date with Wisey's involvement around school. Who knows where we may spot him next!

Afternoon Tea at Birmingham Children's hospital.

Miss Allen and I also visited Birmingham Children's Hospital on Thursday evening to meet with other schools who are taking part in The Big Hoot project and to find out a little more about how the money raised through the project will be spent to help the patients.

We were given a sneak preview of where some of the owlets may be displayed around Birmingham.

Can you find our school on the map?

We also met a completed owlet who was decorated by Annie Laughrin, the Big Hoot School Coordinator.

The meeting was very beneficial. We have some very exciting plans for another opportunity for the whole school to get involved with the project.  We will reveal them to you very soon.

Chris White Visit

Chris White, writer and illustrator, visited school on Thursday to work with the Big Hoot after school group to help the pupils to achieve section B of their art award.

The day started off with a bang as Chris delivered a lively and entertaining performance of his poems to Key Stage 2 in a special assembly.

Chris began with an introduction to some of his illustrations.
Swan Direction.

Chris asked the pupils to invent their own super heroes to help them to write a poem.
Bin girl to the rescue.

Broom boy using his magic sweeping powers on Chris.

The assembly ended with a performance of Chris' alien poem.

Once the assembly was over, it was time to get down to some serious owl business. First of all, Chris helped the reception and KS1 pupils to draw their very own owl illustrations - with a twist of course.

The children then used their illustration to help them to write a poem about Bob the owl.

The Reception and KS1 pupils had a fun morning with Chris.

After lunch, it was time for the KS2 pupils to work with Chris. They were given the challenging task of creating two different owl illustrations. A normal owl and a wacky owl.
Megan's marvellous illustration of Joe the Owl.

Kechia's two illustrations.

Once the children finished drawing their illustrations, it was time to write creatively with the help of Chris.

The afternoon ended with a performance of the pupils poems.

The children all had a hooting day with Chris and so did the staff.  Please ask the Big Hoot pupil in your class to share their owl themed poetry with you.
